How this Tetrad answers the four questions.
1. Enhancement – The cellular phone allows people to communicate from almost any place in the world (History).
2. Obsolescence – The cellular phone obsoletes stationary telephones.
3. Retrieval – The cellular phone brings back a type of mobile communication, that came from cordless Walkie Talkies.
4. Reversal – The cellular phone is setting the stage for a foldable phone. This foldable phone would be flexible, which would allow for it to fold out several times. This would also allow for a bigger screen (Rice, 2010).

I see that great minds think alike. In your obsoletes category you put stationary phones. I often struggle with this category as many people still have stationary phones as their only means of communication. When do you think is an appropriate time frame to declare an item obsolete?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a foldable phone with a bigger screen. I personally am concerned about losing my phone. I have a hard enough time not losing my current phone in the bottom of my bag. You and Suzanne are discussing when it is appropriate time frame to declare an item obsolete, I think that stationary phones are on their way to being obsolete, but not there yet, because there are still a lot of groups that use the stationary phone. But as technologies advance and more users turn to cell phones instead of stationary phones, I think we will see them become obsolete.
ReplyDeleteI also like the idea of fodable phones with a bigger screen but what features on the fodable phone do you think will be different than a current phone today? I think that cell phones will cause the world to become more dependent on them which is setting the stage for cell phones to be their own worst enemy.
